A study revealed that sausages and burgers kill more than 4,000 Britons a year.

Where processed meat raises mortality rates according to the results of the study published in the Lancet medical journal.

According to scientists, poor nutrition caused 90,000 deaths in Britain in 2017 because of factors such as not eating enough fruits and vegetables.

The researchers analyzed mortality rates from cardiovascular disease and cancer in 195 countries, as well as 15 major components in foods or beverages.

They found that eating many processed foods caused 4,300 deaths, while salt intake in large quantities caused more than 14,000 deaths.

Red meat caused 369 deaths while sugar drinks accounted for 1,900 deaths.

Other factors measured include a diet lacking nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains, milk, fiber, calcium, seafood, omega-3 fatty acids and multiple polyunsaturated fats.

The lack of fruit resulted in 18,400 deaths, 13,400 deaths, and 24,200 deaths.

"Malnutrition is more responsible for deaths than any other risk factor in the world," said author Christopher Murray of the University of Washington.

"Although sodium, sugar and fat have been the focus of health discussions over the past two decades, our assessment suggests that the main dietary risk factors are high sodium intake (salt) or low intake of healthy foods, Whole, fruit, nuts, seeds and vegetables ".

Britain has seen very high mortality rates due to processed meat.

Scientists recommend that a daily average of 24 grams of processed meat should not exceed a quarter of a burger.

The bad diet causes 11 million deaths worldwide, compared with 8 million caused by smoking.
