The so-called Hitler's bell in Rhineland-Palatinate Herxheim am Berg may hang in the tower of the Protestant Jacob's Church. The administrative court in Neustadt has dismissed this claim.

A man of Jewish faith had complained that a council decision was unlawful. He had decided to keep the bell "as an impetus for reconciliation and memorial against violence and injustice". However, according to the court, the decision was made "legally by secret ballot". It should be accepted as expression, especially since the history of the bell should be explained by a dunning board.

The claim of the plaintiff to ban the mayor's statement was also rejected, as the ringing of the bell "serves reconciliation with the victims of the Nazi era". It is an expression of opinion and not an assertion of fact.

The bell has been hanging in the tower since 1934. It is provided with a swastika and the inscription "Everything for Fatherland - Adolf Hitler". So far, the decisions of the court have not been finalized because appeals can be appealed against the judgments.

Not only in Herxheim there are still bells with Nazi reference. You can read a detailed article on this topic here.
