France 2 and France 3 will broadcast the competitions, either live or recorded, or by excerpts. However, all the events will be available on Eurosport.

France Télévisions has obtained the broadcast rights of the Olympics Summer 2024 in Paris, announced Monday its president Delphine Ernotte on Twitter. The group has also won the broadcast rights for the Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing, according to Le Parisien , which states that the contract with the US group Discovery which holds the rights for Europe was signed last Wednesday.

"Honor and pride to announce that we have signed with @Discovery an exceptional partnership that gives @francetele the exclusivity of audiovisual rights in clear and live for # JO2024 to #Paris," writes Delphine Ernotte. "This is a major success for the public service," she said. The group did not give further details on the contract. France 2 and France 3 will broadcast all competitions "live, deferred and extracts in its various programs", according to Franceinfo, which also mentioned the creation of a dedicated digital channel.

"In clear and free for all on the public service"

"This is the best scenario, a very coherent decision because France Televisions has Olympic culture, they have been broadcasting the Games for a long time and follow all the year the great competitions of swimming, athletics, tennis and cycling." greeted in Le Parisien Tony Estanguet, President of the Organizing Committee of the OCOG (COJO) of Paris. "The # JO2024 will be clear and free for all on the public service [...] A major sports and media event," tweeted Hervé Godechot, member of the Higher Council of Audiovisual.

The price of the deal was not disclosed, but by the end of 2017, Discovery had estimated that Paris-2024's rights were "at least the price paid for a football World Cup".
TF1 had thus paid 130 million euros for the rights of the last World Cup, while France Télévisions had spent 50 million for those Rio 2016 Games. Discovery (owner of Eurosport) has acquired from the IOC the rights of retransmission for the Europe of the Winter and Summer Games from 2018 to 2024.

3,000 hours of programs

If France Télévisions broadcast Paris-2024 in the clear, Eurosport will offer the events in full to subscribers, or 3,000 hours of program in two weeks, according to Le Parisien .
"We will be live from the opening minute of the opening ceremony to the last of the closing ceremony, many events will be on France Télévisions, with fantastic audiences, but sports fans will be able to watch Eurosport every minute of each discipline, "said Discovery International CEO Jean-Briac Perrette. "We are going to create a number of event channels for the duration of the Games, each dedicated to a specific discipline," he added.
