The Minister of Higher Education met Tuesday, October 23, actors in the fight against racism and anti-Semitism. Before the summer and since the beginning of the academic year, several acts have been recorded in Tolbiac, in the premises of HEC or on the Grenoble campus.

The Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal, gathered Tuesday, October 23, several actors in the fight against racism and antisemitism after the recent "upsurge" of anti-Semitic acts in different institutions, which may be "the beginnings of new switches " .

Among those present were Mario Stasi, President of the Licra (International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism), Sacha Ghozlan, President of the UEJF (Union of Jewish Students of France), and Johanna Barasz, Assistant to the Dilcrah (Interministerial Delegate the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT hatred). The minister made a point on "a worrying phenomenon in recent months: the resurgence of anti-Semitic acts in higher education institutions" .

These acts " may be the beginnings of new shifts"

Before the summer, a room used by the UEJF was ransacked in the faculty of Paris Tolbiac. In September, antisemitic tags targeting the president of the University Grenoble-Alpes (UGA) were discovered on the Grenoble campus. In mid-October, tags were found in a classroom on the campus of the HEC business school. Last week, swastikas were tagged at the Faculty of Law Assas (Paris 2). These acts, "if they remain limited in their scope, may be the beginnings of new shifts," said Frederic Vidal, expressing his "total disapproval . "

There is never anything trivial about the issue of racism and anti-Semitism.

In March, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe presented a new plan to combat racism and anti-Semitism. This plan includes strengthening the network of anti-Semitism racism referents in higher education institutions. According to the ministry, a referent is now present since the beginning of each year at each university. Training days will be held in November and March and a working group will meet in November to write a "vademecum" to learn how to respond to an incident in an institution, the minister said.
