Universal Pictures UK introduced the debut teaser trailer for the Addams Family movie. The video appeared on the studio’s official YouTube channel.

The video shows fragments of the characteristic entertainment of a gloomy family - a sea battle with real explosions and torture. However, the creators stressed that the fine arts Addams is also not alien.

It is expected that in the next project, dedicated to the famous family, the main characters confront TV host Margot Nidler, who decided to turn the life of Addams into a reality show. It is noteworthy that the new picture is based on original comics by American artist Charles Addams, and not on previous screen versions.

The development of the film adaptation was carried out by the directors of “Complete Splinter” Greg Tirnan and Conrad Vernon (he is also known for the second “Shrek” and the third “Madagascar”). The screenplay was written by Matt Lieberman and Pamela Pettler, together with Tim Burton, who worked on The Corpse of the Bride and Nine cartoons.

Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wulfard and Bette Midler took part in the dubbing of the film adaptation.

Gail Berman (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and Alex Schwartz (“Around the World in 80 Days”) agreed to produce the project. The release of "Addams Family" will take place shortly before Halloween - October 11, 2019.

Eighty Years Comics

For the first time stories about a strange family appeared on the pages of The New Yorker in 1938 in the form of comics. The ironic tales of a family living in a gloomy mansion were described by artist Charles Addams. Inspiration caricaturist scooped up in the image of his native Westfield, New Jersey. The city’s space was decorated with richly decorated Victorian mansions and old cemeteries - it was they who served as the archetype of the Gothic mansion of the drawn Addams.

The Addams themselves, despite their eccentricity, love for solitude, sadistic inclinations and passion for grotesque humor, are not evil characters and do not seek to harm others.

Sketches Addams about an unusual family were published in the newspaper over the next 50 years - until the author's death in 1988. However, until the first adaptation of the characters did not have names.

With the development of television broadcasting in post-war America, and with it the flowering of sitcoms, cinematographers paid attention to Addams.

Deciding to shoot the first TV show on the Addams family, the producers asked the cartoonist to come up with names for the characters and carefully work out their characters. So the couple Gomez and Morticia appeared, their children, Wednesday and Pugzli, grandmother Addams, butler Lurch, uncle Fester and a hand named Thing.

Each character has his own quirky hobbies: Gomez is fond of throwing knives and crashing toy trains, Morticia grows poisonous plants and cuts off buds from them, leaving spikes with stalks, Oansday’s daughter tortures Pugzli, and Uncle Fester plays with dynamite.

Black and white series and color full meter

For the first time on TV screens, the story of Addams was shown in the mid-1960s. Then the ratings of the black-and-white series “Addams Family” disappointed producers, and soon the series was closed.

In the 1970s, an attempt was made to create a cartoon version of Addams. Studio Hanna-Barbera made adjustments to the family's life: now Addams did not live in a Gothic mansion at the cemetery, but in a Victorian-style motorhome and traveled around the United States.

A little later - in 1977 - the premiere of the television film “Halloween with the New Addams Family” by Charles Fries Productions took place.

With the release of several television adaptations, producer Scott Rudin (at that time the president of the Fox film studio) decided to start shooting the film version of The Addams Family.

However, there were problems with the rights to the film version. They belonged to the Orion Pictures studio, which also planned to take on the development of a full-length film, but because of financial turmoil, it never started shooting.

As a result, Orion ceded the rights to Paramount Pictures, in which Rudin was already working at that time. The director's chair of the first full-length film about the Addams family was taken by the co-director of the films of the brothers Cohen Barry Sonnenfeld.

The leading roles in the film were performed by Puerto Rican actor Raul Julia, Christina Ricci and Christopher Lloyd. The role of Mortisha Addams was played by Angelica Houston, who, by virtue of her own origin, presented her character with aristocracy and refinement.

The film was awarded a number of cinema awards. The film received a nomination for "Oscar", "Golden Globe" and BAFTA. The success of the full-length tape pushed the creators to the filming of the second part called “The Values of the Addams Family”. The sequel was awarded the Oscar for the best work of art director.

Later, based on comics about the Addams family, a comedy film, a television series and video games were released.
