The National College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians wants to set up medical centers specializing in the treatment of endometriosis. This disease is characterized by the presence of cells of uterine origin outside the uterus, which react to hormones during menstrual cycles.

The National College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (CNGOF) on Friday called for the creation of "expert centers" to improve the diagnosis and management of endometriosis.

These multidisciplinary centers, which bring together specialists specialized in a complex disease, would make it possible to put an end to the "diagnostic and therapeutic wandering" of many patients suffering from this poorly known and misidentified gynecological disease, judges the scholarly society of gynecologists, upstream of its annual congress at the beginning of December.

" Never let it down "

"This expertise means that specialists from the expert center, who do not necessarily work in the same institution, can free up time. So money. (...) This is why the CNGOF, like associations like Endofrance, hoped to obtain the approval of the Ministry of Health for a national label , "said in a statement Prof. François Golfier, who leads a commission on endometriosis within the CNGOF.

But this summer, "it was made clear to us that there would be no expert centers and that we only had to organize ourselves to create, with our means of care," deplores the head of the service. at the University Hospital of Lyon-Sud, adding "do not let go" .

Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of cells of uterine origin outside the uterus, which react to hormones during menstrual cycles.

Sometimes it does not cause symptoms and does not require management. But in 10% to 20% of women, it is estimated that it causes pain, chronic or acute, or even infertility.
