The 123 boats of the Route du Rhum took off from Pointe du Grouin in Cancale this Sunday, November 4, 2018. An event under close surveillance. 150 gendarmes were mobilized as well as soldiers from Operation Sentinel.

All the precautions had been taken to ensure that the start of the Route du Rhum, the tip of the Grouin (Cancale) unfolded without a hitch.

That was the case. 6,000 people converged on the site at sunrise. The first-comers were the best placed.

Rubatises protected the areas not to be trampled and agents of the departmental council kept watch.

The town hall had also mobilized rescue workers.

The gendarmerie had also deployed large means in its area, a quadrilateral from Cancale to the tip of the Grouin through the point of Meinga and Saint-Coulomb. 150 men were mobilized including a hundred reservists.

No major difficulty at the time of departures but big slowdowns at the crossroads of Petites-Croix Cancale to the tip of Meinga, where the axis was one-way.
