We often hear of cases in which one spouse died after the death of the other, and it turns out that there is a scientific reason behind it called "broken heart syndrome" and is associated with the occurrence of diseases and infections leading to death.

A recent study confirmed that severe grief of partner loss can lead to broken heart death. Patients who struggle to move forward after a family member dies are more at risk.

Researchers from Rice University in the United States interviewed and tested the blood of 99 people whose partner had recently died. They compared those who showed symptoms, great sadness and difficulty of movement, the sense that life was meaningless and the inability to accept the truth of loss with those who did not.

Seventy-seven percent of those who lost their partners showed an opportunity for physical inflammation that often affects the blood vessels and has a role in the development of heart disease, cancer and fracture.

Depression is linked to inflammation leading to death, heart attacks and stroke, and those who lose their husbands are at high risk of depression, said Chris Vagondis, lead author of the study.

The study recommends that people who find it difficult to overcome the death of the partner to consult a doctor and follow up the state of health with him.
