Did Sergei W. really appreciate the effect of his bombs? In the process surrounding the bombing of Borussia Dortmund's team bus, the 29-year-old asserted to the very end that he had purposely built the explosives in such a way that no one was killed. The District Court of Dortmund sentenced him, inter alia, for attempted murder in 28 cases to 14 years in prison.

By contrast, according to the court, W. has now appealed to the Federal Court of Justice. His lawyers had only applied for a conviction for causing an explosive blast.

Also the public prosecutor's office does not want to accept the guilty verdict. She had demanded a lifelong jail sentence for W. after he confessed to detonating three shell bombs in front of Borussia Dortmund's team bus on April 11, 2017. It was defender Marc Bartra injured on the arm.

With the bomb attack, the Russian-born German had wanted to bring the course of the BVB share to crash according to their own statements. It was his sole concern to spread fear and terror, it was said in the confession of the electrical engineer. He had with warrants on a fall of the stock bet - and hoped for a profit of "tens of thousands of euros".
