In Berlin, a catenary damage on an important railway line was discovered on Sunday. Forces of the Federal Police discovered between the stations Karlshorst and Wuhlheide a torn tether and a damaged supply cable. Forensic scientists assume an attack on Deutsche Bahn.

In the investigation, the officials have secured several pieces of evidence. These include, inter alia, a flag of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) and documents with Arabic characters. Whether the flag and the letters are related to the alleged attack is still unclear.

In addition, the investigators examine a possible connection with the attack on the railway line between Nuremberg and Munich on 7 October. On that day, the windshield of an ICE had been damaged by a steel cable, the unknown offenders had stretched across the railway tracks in the Middle Franconian Allersberg near Nuremberg.

In the vicinity of the crime scene were in addition to several pieces of wood and iron, according to Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation (LKA) also two threatening letters have been found, a completely preserved and a fragment. An Arab graffiti on a bridge pier also documented the officials.

The threatening letters in Arabic threatened Europe-wide attacks against rail traffic, should the EU states stop attacking the IS. Whether the assassins of October 7 were actually in contact with the IS or whether it is freeloaders, could not be clarified so far.

Investigators said that the texts came from well-known Internet forums, were freely available and could easily be used by anyone else. It is possible that these letters were used to fool a connection to the Islamist scene.
