A 73-year-old woman has kept the body of her 74-year-old husband dead for a year and a half in their apartment, German prosecutors said on Tuesday.
According to the prosecution, one of the couple's acquaintances was worried about them. He had not seen the husband for a year and a half. He told the police to investigate. When the wife refrained from opening a closed room, police officers became suspicious.
The police found the body completely decomposed of the husband in his bed. The prosecutor ordered the autopsy, but found no evidence of a crime or conspiracy.
"It may be a tragic family incident," said prosecutor Nana Frombach. "Maybe the old lady had difficulties leaving the husband."
