A woman in Uttar Pradesh, India, killed her husband by setting him on fire because of her displeasure with his dark skin, the Times of India reported on its website.
The wife, Prem Shri, killed her husband, Satyavir Singh, two years after their marriage, and gave birth to their first child in five months.
Indian police accused the wife of deliberately killing her husband after neighbors told the police as soon as they heard loud screams from the defendant's house. They tried to extinguish the fire that was devouring the body of the husband, who died the same day from serious burns.
The police investigation, according to the Times of India, said the suspect justified her action, saying she had married Singh without seeing her in advance, and that she had never loved him because of "his very dark skin color" and set him on fire while he was asleep.
The suspect added that she had poured fuel on him and burned him alive.
