On the holiday island of Majorca, the first women's hotel will be inaugurated in April 2019. The hotel chain Som with 39 rooms will be opened in the coastal town of Porto Cristo about 60 kilometers east of the capital Palma.

In the hotel, holidaymakers should be able to stay completely to themselves: "It is not about us in any way for women's rights or feminism," said Som boss Joan Enric Capellá the "Mallorca newspaper". "But to satisfy an increasing demand."

More and more women are traveling alone or in purely female groups, said Capellá. And sometimes these women wanted to stay among themselves. "We men sometimes do not realize that, but when a woman enters a room, many men look at her, and a lot of the women feel that as an attack," he said.

One would therefore for the "Som Dona" also purely female staff. In addition, the hotel was planned exclusively by women. The house will only be bookable for women over the age of 16 - so-called adult-only hotel.

Will there soon be a men's hotel in Majorca?

At first, Som had planned a hotel exclusively for lesbian women. The founder of the Lesbian Ella Festival in Mallorca, Kristin Hansen, but advised against it, said the Som president.

Will there soon be a men's hotel in Majorca? "If there is one day this trend, I can imagine that too," Capellá said. "At the moment he does not exist."

The trend "Women only" is not limited to hotels. There are now gyms or co-working offices only for women. "We asked the female guests in our hotels if they would holiday in a pure women's hotel," Capellá said. "An overwhelming majority answered yes."

There really is a trend. In cities like Hamburg or New York there are hotels for women only. But even in the seaside resort of Nienhagen, women can spend their holidays together. After all, many hotels worldwide have "women only" days.

The US-American Kristina Roth even bought a whole island just for women: In Finland women can now relax on "Super She Island", a 3.4-hectare island about 90 minutes from Helsinki, without men.
