Transnistrian authorities have asked Russia for help to lift the siege on the breakaway region of Transnistria. The region has been at odds with Moldova since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said it always carefully considers requests received from him. Analyst Roland Bijamov believes that the way out of the crisis lies in Moldova maintaining its neutral status and not entering the European Union as an independent state. He believes that Moldova has its own concerns that it does not rule out that it will become an integrated part of NATO.
