More than 112 people have died in the violent forest fires in Chile. Hundreds of people are still missing in the coastal town of Viña del Mar.

The authorities registered around 190 fires across an area of ​​29,000 hectares. President Gabriel Boric spoke of the worst tragedy the country has experienced since the severe earthquake in 2010. An evening curfew applies to severely affected areas. The fires are also threatening the outskirts of Viñas del Mar near Valparaíso. The two coastal towns are particularly popular with tourists.
