A broadcaster on the Taiwanese "iNews" channel lived difficult moments while presenting the news bulletin during the earthquake. An earthquake measuring 7.2 Richter struck the city of Hualien, off the eastern coast of Taiwan, killing 9 people.

At least 5 were killed by falling rocks, officials say, and more than 700 people were injured. The authorities stated that efforts are continuing to rescue 127 people trapped, including 77 people inside the Jinwen and Qingshui Mountain tunnels. The earthquake also caused a power outage in several parts of the country, causing severe material damage.
