Kirby: We are optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement on a longer truce and the release of the hostages. Any major military operation under the current circumstances in Rafah would be a disaster for civilians there and we will not support it.
We are holding talks with Iraq about the US military situation in the country. We have good relations with Iraq and we support its territorial sovereignty. There are very positive parts in Hamas' response to the agreement proposal. We do not see any indications that Israel intends to carry out a large-scale operation.
