A rare magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck on Friday April 5, very close to New York, on the other side of the Hudson River, in neighboring New Jersey. It was felt as far away as Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

No significant damage or injuries were reported. The shock, which lasted about twenty seconds, was felt from the Bronx, in the north, to Brooklyn,. Some schools were temporarily evacuated. At the UN, the Security Council was even interrupted for a few minutes, as the cameras in the room began to shake.
