Floods and landslides caused by heavy rains have killed at least 109 people in the west of the country. Western Governor Francois Habitigiko said: "Our first priority now is to reach every house destroyed" Red Cross in neighbouring Uganda reported that six people also died there, and on the border with Rwanda at night, after heavy rains flooded mountainous areas.

The rain began around 1600 p.m. local time (<> GMT) yesterday, and the Sepia River overflowed its banks.
