The Hungarian parliament was unable to vote on ratifying Sweden's application to join NATO due to a lack of quorum. The ruling parties, which have two-thirds of the votes, boycotted the extraordinary meeting.

The meeting was declared invalid at the stage of approving the agenda. US Ambassador to Budapest David Pressman noted that the American authorities are disappointed that Hungary has delayed the process of Sweden's accession to NATO. The U.S. Embassy in Budapest said it was disappointed that the Hungarian parliament had delayed ratifying the application.
