A hospital is an institution built, staffed and equipped to diagnose diseases, to treat patients medically and surgically, and to house them in the process. Hospitals provide around-the-clock treatment for patients suffering from serious injuries, urgent health problems, and rare diseases.

The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University is currently the largest hospital in the world with a capacity of about 7,000 beds. The West China Medical Center of Sichuan University is the second largest hospital. The National Hospital of Sri Lanka was established in 1864.
