The People's Party emerged strengthened on Sunday from the municipal and regional elections in Spain, according to the first results and the Spanish media. The Socialists (PSOE) of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez suffered a sharp setback in the municipal elections of Sunday, May 28 in Spain.

The elections covered all 8,131 municipalities, representing 35.5 million voters, as well as the assemblies of 12 of the 17 autonomous regions. These elections are a barometer for the government before the legislative elections at the end of the year.
