In a surprising move, the Russian ambassador to Asmara, Igor Mozgu, announced that his country would conduct joint military maneuvers with the Eritrean Navy. This is directly related to Moscow highlighting its possession of strategic allies in the southern Red Sea. Eritrea appears to be the country closest to Moscow, and relations between the two parties have witnessed continuous growth over the past years on many levels.
