Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is standing on a street in Istanbul with a handful of banknotes. In Turkey, the second round of the presidential election began on Sunday morning.

The incumbent is running in a run-off election against his challenger Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Since the introduction of a presidential system in 2018, Erdogan has had more power than ever before. Critics fear that the country, which has a population of around 85 million, could slide completely into autocracy if he wins.
