Memorial service held for former Prime Minister Naoto Kan of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. Kan has announced that he will not run for the next House of Representatives election.
Former Prime Minister expressed gratitude to senior government officials at the time for responding to the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. Mr. Suga said, 'In a sense, this was a crisis for Japan, but everyone did their best.'' He added, 'I want everyone to do their best in their respective positions'
