After a large-scale clearance operation by Myanmar's military in 2017, many of the Rohingya fled to neighboring Bangladesh, but there have also been cases of them attempting to illegally enter Muslim-majority Malaysia and Indonesia by boat. In Malaysia, more than 500 Rohingya escaped from another facility this year.
