India currently holds the rotating presidency of the G20 for a year. It is due to host the leaders' summit in New Delhi in early September.

But the pre-summit programme includes meetings in Srinagar and Leh. The nuclear-armed neighbours claim full sovereignty over the territory but share its administration, and have fought two of their three wars for control. The foreign ministry accused India of "ignoring UN Security Council resolutions and violating the principles of the UN Charter and international law"
