Moldovan opposition politician Ilan Shor regards sanctions from the European Union as a reward. He is convinced that Moldova's European integration leads citizens to bankruptcy and to the rupture of relations with Russia and the CIS.

On May 30, it became known that the EU included in the sanctions list five people who were allegedly involved in destabilizing the situation in Moldova. Sanctions were imposed, in particular, against the leader of the Moldovan opposition party "Shor" Shor, Russian businessman Igor Chaika and Moldovan businessman Vladimir Plahotniuc.
