Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the end of the state-run news agency Notimex. The agency was created on August 20, 1968, a few weeks before the Olympic Games in Mexico City.

In February 2020, employees went on strike to denounce the management of the director appointed by Lopez Obrado in 2019, Sanjuana Martinez. According to union sources, 241 people have been dismissed since March 2019. The government "is in the process of reaching an agreement" with notimex employees to liquidate the agency.
