Police in Lüchow-Dannenberg, Lower Saxony, are investigating eight employees of the district administration on suspicion of corruption. The background to the investigations is possible irregularities in the issuance of residence permits.

An employee had been arrested in the meantime and has since been released, the public prosecutor's office said at the request of the German Press Agency. The district administration could not be reached for comment on the investigation. The investigators did not initially provide any further information, citing the ongoing investigation.
