Israeli Haaretz likens the destruction in Gaza to “what comes after the atomic bomb”. At least half of the buildings in the Gaza Strip were likely to have been damaged or destroyed as of last January 29, according to American researchers.

Most of the destruction is in northern Gaza, but bitter fighting is also taking place in the south, as satellite data shows. The United Nations says that about 1.7 million Gazans fled their homes during the war, most of them now in the South.
