The first criminal case under the new article of the Criminal Code was opened in January in the Republic of Bashkortostan. It is clarified that the case was initiated under Article 172.4 “Illegal activities for the return of overdue debts of individuals,” which appeared in July 2023 after the corresponding decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Previously, the Russian government approved a regulation on control over the activities of collectors - now they will be assigned risk categories. In this way the practice of bringing debt collectors to criminal liability is beginning to take shape.
