In Russia, the first case was opened regarding violations by debt collectors when repaying a debt

Director of the Federal Bailiff Service Dmitry Aristov spoke about this. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to him, the first criminal case under the new article of the Criminal Code was opened in January in the Republic of Bashkortostan.

He noted that in this way the practice of bringing debt collectors to criminal liability is beginning to take shape.

It is clarified that the case was initiated under Article 172.4 “Illegal activities for the return of overdue debts of individuals,” which appeared in the Criminal Code in July 2023 after the corresponding decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Aristov explained that after the appearance of this norm, security forces no longer need to select a criminal article to determine violations by collection organizations.

Previously, the Russian government approved a regulation on control over the activities of collectors - now they will be assigned risk categories.
