The Georgian authorities intend to again initiate the adoption of a law on foreign agents in parliament. An attempt to pass this law in 2023 led to protests in Tbilisi.

The US State Department advised the Georgian authorities not to return it to the agenda, because such a law was “incompatible with Georgian and Euro-Atlantic values” Washington then did not rule out imposing sanctions against representatives of the Georgia authorities. The document provided for the creation of a register of non-governmental organizations, media and entities that receive money from a foreign state.
