Gao Weidong, former director of Guizhou Provincial Coalfield Geology Bureau, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance. He was deprived of political rights for life, and all personal property was confiscated.
His bribery gains and their accruals were recovered in accordance with the law and turned over to the state treasury. More than 30 people from all walks of life attended the sentencing. Gao Weidsong expressed his acceptance of the verdict in court and would not appeal.
