The G7 countries have agreed to target Russia with a series of new economic sanctions, according to the US Treasury Department. The aim is to weaken the country's ability to wage its war of invasion in Ukraine.

The G7 summit in Hiroshima began on Friday and will continue over the weekend, when Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is expected to appear. A talking point ahead of the meeting has been the question of possibly sending US-made F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. European countries, including the Netherlands, have previously expressed a willingness to do so, but have been rejected by the United States.
