Maria, the 40-year-old woman who was stabbed in the neck allegedly by her partner at a home in Móstoles in the early hours of last Monday, died Thursday in the hospital. The victim was already in critical condition after having lost a lot of blood.

The alleged aggressor, 52 years old and who was arrested after the attack, had no previous history or complaints. The attack occurred on the same day that the woman had met with a lawyer to initiate the separation proceedings. If the macho nature of this crime is confirmed, the number of women killed by their partners or ex-partners in Spain would rise to 16 this year.
