Denmark announced the end of the investigation into the "Nord Stream" incident and Russia responded: almost ridiculous. In response, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov responded, "This situation is almost absurd." All parties generally believe that this incident was a "deliberate sabotage".

Days later, Denmark, Sweden and Germany each launched independent investigations into the incident. In February 2023, Seymour Hersh, a well-known American investigative reporter, published an article claiming that the Nord Stream pipeline system had been secretly sabotaged by U.S. intelligence agencies. The US government denies this.
