Cambodia: Hun Sen becomes president of the Senate and maintains his grip on power. At 71, Hun Sen is re-appointed for a new six-year term.

He was unanimously elected on April 3 by the 62 senators from – in an overwhelming majority – the CPP, the Cambodian People's Party under the control of the Hun clan. The new Hun Manet-led government includes a number of his family members and several children of Hun Sen's allies in positions of importance.
