At 71, Hun Sen is re-appointed for a new six-year term. This time as President of the Senate in

Cambodia

, unanimously elected on April 3 by the 62 senators from – in an overwhelming majority – the CPP, the Cambodian People's Party under the control of the Hun clan.

Senators entirely committed to the cause of the former Khmer Rouge: namely perpetuating the reign of the man who ruled the kingdom with an iron fist for almost four decades. The election of Hun Sen to this office is therefore not a surprise, he was the only candidate.

Keeping a grip on Cambodia’s affairs

And last July, when he ceded power to his eldest son Hun Manet, Hun Sen made it clear that he would not disappear from political life, at least not yet.

The new Hun Manet-led government includes a number of his family members and several children of Hun Sen's allies in positions of importance. In February, his younger son

Hun Many was promoted to deputy prime minister

.

After having established a family dynasty at the head of the kingdom, by preparing his eldest son for his succession, the leader – now the 2nd person in the State after the king – does not intend to relax his hold on the affairs of the country, although opposite.
