China ends huge military exercise that has taken place around Taiwan in recent days. The exercise was received as a provocation by both Taiwan and the United States.
Despite the tension, many Taiwanese view the situation calmly. "When China acts, they are always trying to push the boundaries," says sound engineer Lu Chih-Hao in Taipei. The Chinese exercise began after Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen met with US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy earlier this week. It reportedly included both live rounds and simulated attacks on strategically important targets in Taiwan.
