Alexander Hoffmann becomes the new parliamentary managing director of the CSU. The 49-year-old lawyer from Lower Franconia in northern Bavaria succeeds Stefan Müller.

Müller will leave the Bundestag to become chairman of the board and president of the Bavarian Cooperative Association in the summer. There was no opposing candidate in the election on Monday evening. According to SPIEGEL information, 40 votes were cast, 39 of which were valid. 38 of the MPs voted for Hoffmann.
