Alexander Hoffmann becomes the new parliamentary director of the CSU

Change in leadership at the Christian Social Union: The CSU members of the Bundestag have elected Alexander Hoffmann as their new parliamentary managing director.

The 49-year-old lawyer from Lower Franconia in northern Bavaria succeeds Stefan Müller, who will leave the Bundestag to become chairman of the board and president of the Bavarian Cooperative Association in the summer.

Müller has been a member of the Bundestag since 2002 and was Parliamentary Secretary for more than ten years.

His successor Hoffmann has been a member of the Bundestag since 2013, where he represents the Main-Spessart constituency.

He is a member of the Interior Committee and the Parliamentary Control Committee responsible for the secret services.

According to the CSU, Hoffmann had no opposing candidate in the election on Monday evening.

According to SPIEGEL information, 40 votes were cast, 39 of which were valid.

38 of the MPs voted for Hoffmann.
