After a massacre that led to the death of dozens, calls escalated to prevent an Israeli attack on Rafah. About 100 Palestinians were martyred and dozens were injured, most of them women and children, in violent Israeli bombing of homes and mosques in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) considered the attack a continuation of the genocidal war against the Palestinian people, and called for urgent international action to stop the aggression. In Europe, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that 1.7 million Palestinians in the city of Rafah have nowhere to go.
