Turkey's opposition is heading into a second round of presidential elections scheduled for May 28. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan topped the first-round result with 49.52 percent of the vote.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has not been able to win the municipal and general elections, except for his candidates winning the municipalities of Istanbul and Ankara in 2019. The opposition leader has begun to protect his position after the first round by claiming that there is a societal demand for a change of power.
