Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan attended a memorial service in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, for civilian seafarers who lost their lives in the Pacific War. The "Memorial Service for Sailors Killed and Martyrs" has been held since Showa 46, when a cenotaph was built in Kannonzaki Park.

His Majesty the Emperor addressed the bereaved families who attended with the Empress, and told the <>-year-old woman who lost her father, a crew member, at a young age.
