The Chinchorros lived on the Pacific coast and began mummifying 7,500 years ago, 3,000 years before the Egyptians. The oldest mummies are not found in Egypt, but in Chile.
The painted mummies of the Chinch orros were painted by a group of artisans. The mummies were found in the town of Chinchora, on the coast of Chile. They are believed to have been mummified in the 7th and 8th century BC.
