Islam appeared in India since the first century of its emergence, and its presence was established with the establishment of Islamic rule in the region. Muslims left behind a human and cultural heritage that left a tangible impact on religion, language, architecture, arts, sciences and literature.

The first contact of the Indian peoples with Islam was thanks to Muslim merchants, who went to the southern coasts of India and built mosques there. The coasts were the first cradle of Islam in the country, especially the coasts of Sindh, Malabar, and the island of Ceylon.
