Songkran takes place on April 4-13 with a 14-day holiday. It is the most solemn traditional festival of the Dai people in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Dehong Prefecture and other places in Yunnan, located in the southwest border of China.

During the festival, people dressed in costume and carried clean water to wash the dust, called "bathing Buddha" The festival is generally held for three days, which is the second day of the Chinese New Year.
