Strengthening relations with Pacific island countries: Japan Coast Guard dispatches security officers for first time for rescue training. Four people were dispatched from January 13th to 28th, and together with local authorities, they conducted rescue training in which they used rescue nets to pull people adrift at sea onto ships.

In addition, a lecture was given on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, including the enforcement of laws within territorial waters. According to those involved, China hopes to strengthen cooperative relationships with Pacific Island countries with China's expansion into the oceans in mind.
